Mallorca & Menorca Guide

Located between two bays in the north of Mallorca, Alcudia is rich in history, heritage and beaches. Do you want to discover the beaches you can't miss?

Port d'Alcudia is a reason in itself to visit Mallorca

Alcudia is situated between two bays in the North of Mallorca, with lots of hotels and much to offer the tourists who visit it. The city of Alcudia, with its port - is rich in history and heritage thanks to its strategic position in the Mediterranean. It has been object of desire throughout history some would arrive on its beaches looking to trade but others wanted to invade and conquer Alcudia. The coast of Mallorca in those days  wasn´t a place for tourists  it was a place that needed to defend itself as its port was very coveted by pirates and merchants. Tourism and hotels came much later and now  they are the reality of the island. For the tourist, the possibility of taking flight, a trip to a destination to a  Spain full of beaches, hotels, restaurants and many  other good things came about mostly in the 1950s.

Flights to enjoy hotels and beaches

Since then places such as Mallorca, Alcudia and Port d'Alcudia have not looked back and have never been short of visitors not only  wanting  to come and to see the island but wanting to live and feel the experience that is Spain. The beaches of Alcudia and Port d'Alcudia with all its  hotels, continue to attract visitors like a magnet, even more than other parts of Mallorca, because there is a beach  to suit everyone; some are bigger, some  are smaller,  some with more sand, some with less, some with just big boulders, some with shallow crystalline waters and some with deep blue waters, some of them are visible and some are hidden  and some are over the top and some are discreet! In fact, Alcudia  is a good example of the type of tourism you will find in Mallorca: great hotels, great  service and lovely beaches, add  cheap flights to all  that  and the trip is booked or trips because the  visitors who come to Alcudia and its beaches often come back again and again.

Hotels and the beach in Alcudia

If you want a  family beach holiday and like to go for long walks, then next to the hotel  Zafiro Palace Alcudia.  is the wonderful Alcudia Beach, which is more than 7km long and it really easy to walk along thanks to its fine white sand which is very typical of mallorca. The Alcudia beach, which is near to the marina of this  lovely the seaside resort, has an interesting mix  of services, as well as lots of  hotels, restaurants and bars there are plenty facilities to enjoy the sea  to the maximum in many ways and what´s more they are the best  in Mallorca. Slides, windsurf, sailboats, catamarans, jet-ski, giant bananas for crazy rides can all be found there... and  if you  simply  want to  relax on holiday in Mallorca by lying on a sunbed under a beach umbrella or going to the bar for Tinto de Verano ( red wine mixed with lemonade) or a chilled beer or  pedal  about the Bay of Alcudia in  a pedal boat. To  top all that  just in front of  the beach  there are plenty of  restaurants  to suit everyone. Those wonderful happy  moments  spent on a beach in Alcudia are in themselves  good enough reasons to return to Alcudia again and again.

Alcudia is a safe place

The beach of Alcudia is very safe and with very  calm waters, which makes it ideal for travelling with children, because the beach is very shallow for quite some distance so children can quite  happily paddle without the water going above their heads. There are also has toilets  and showers close by on  the Beach.  Easily accessible by car, on foot or by bike plus you get there either  from Alcudia or Playa de Muro, right in front of the hotel Zafiro Bahía from its beach bar you can see  the entire beach, Alcudia Beach starts  at the Marina, where the hotel Zafiro Tropic is situated. Alcanada Beach on the other hand is small beach with pebbles and crystal-clear waters and  it is very quiet and  very close to hotels in the area. One of its attractions is the Pine trees, which  give off a lovely perfume and provide the  perfect shade for a nap. Alcanada Beach has a small island opposite with a lighthouse which you easily swim to for a closer inspection, Swimming in Alcanada you lose all sense of time it so relaxing...

Beyond the Port of Alcudia

Another of the beaches of Alcudia which needs a mention is S'Illot, which faces the Bay of Pollensa and Formentor. It is a small pebble beach, perfect for canoeing, as it  is protected from the wind  also for snorkeling and scuba diving, as the sea beds  are very rich in flora and fauna. Along the beach there are tables, benches and grills to eat  and have a BBQ there with the family, something  which is very typical in Mallorca and throughout Spain. Cap de Bou is very difference with respect to the above it lies in the bay between Alcudia and Port de Pollença it is a very narrow  but  long stretch of beach it is only visited by the odd solitary tourist and fishermen from  the village  however because it is  exposed to the wind and the force of the sea, it is the ideal  place for those who like to travel to do some  sailing, windsurfing and the latest craze of kite-surfing, on the days the wind is blowing in the bay , when the kite surfers are out in force it is an amazing sight to behold a real show of colours high above the waves all those who are passing stop to look with amazement.

Alcudia has so much to offer:

There are other beaches in Alcudia and around the North of Mallorca, some of them only have accessible  by sea  and are filled with posidonia ( the Mediterranean seaweed) blown in off shore by the wind  here you can anchor as long as you  respect the shore  limits that are part of the coastal law  which is very strict in Mallorca it is one of the most protectionist in Spain, because Mallorca wants to protect its coast line and the native animals and plants that live there to preserve it for future generations.

So, if you are looking for a great beach holiday then look no further than Alcudia you won't be disappointed!
