Menorca's top 5 unspoilt coves, hidden in the middle of nature

Mallorca & Menorca Guide

The hidden coves of Menorca provide you with the perfect paradise to get away from everyday stress. To many, they are the real Spanish Caribbean: hidden corners with fine white sand, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea and surrounded by lush pine forests and cliffs that seem to go on forever.

These hidden beaches are still a mystery for the vast majority of visitors the island welcomes every year. So, if you are looking for a safe holiday destination, surrounded by nature where you can rest peacefully, take note: Zafiro Hotels will reveal the secret and let you know how to find these coves on Menorca.

The hidden coves of Menorca

Menorca has a total of 216 km coastline where you can find famous coves such as Macarella and Macarelleta, Cala Galdana and Cala Turqueta. That said, the hidden gems are the unspoilt coves located on the south coast of the island, only a few kilometres from our hotel Zafiro Menorca, in Ciutadella.

The north coast is also home to some of these secret corners of Menorca that you should not miss out on, Cala Pilar for example. On this side of the island many coves have a very peculiar reddish hue that contrasts nicely with the blue of the sea, creating a very photograph-worthy landscape.

  • Cala Es Talaier

Cala Es Talaier is a small, unspoilt cove south of Ciutadella. The sand is white and fine, and the water is crystal clear with that turquoise colour that characterises beaches on Menorca. There are two ways to get here: starting from either the Cala Turqueta car park or the one at Son Saura, then walking for some 15–20 minutes. The walk is uncomplicated, and the final prize will be worth it: this is one of the most beautiful and quiet coves in Menorca.

  • Cala Trebalúger

Isolated and surrounded by untouched nature, Cala Trebalúger is one of the most charming hidden coves in the south of Menorca. This is where the Son Fideu torrent reaches the sea, which is why it is framed by lush pine forests and impressive cliffs. The best way to get to Cala Trebalúger is to take a left from Cala Mitjana. It takes around 40 minutes to walk and the path is flat, with pine trees to protect you from the sun.

  • Cala Binidali

In the town Sant Climent you will find another gem in the southern part of Menorca: Cala Binidali is a small beach, not very crowded, surrounded by Mediterranean forest and cliffs that highlight a spectacular, turquoise sea. The beach is very small, but the sand is fine and white, and the bottom of the sea is full of life, making this the perfect place to go snorkelling. To get to Cala Binidali you go from the village with the same name, all the way to the car park.

  • Cala Pilar

We now leave the south coast of Menorca and head to the northern side. One of the hidden coves you should not miss on this side is Cala Pilar. Its intense reddish colour will surprise you, contrasting with the bright blue of the sea. It is not a very crowded beach, with a fair few waves on windy days. The only service to be found here is a small fountain with drinking water. To get to Cala Pilar, you take the Camí del Pilar at kilometre mark 34 on the main road, until you get to a car park. From there, it is a 2-km walk along an easy, very beautiful nature trail.

  • Playa des Bot

Located in a protected natural area 10 km from Ciutadella, the beach Playa des Bot is one of the calmest unspoilt coves on the north coast of Menorca. This is a tiny cove, with fine white sand and shallow waters. It is surrounded by a wealth of vegetation, a small torrent and wetlands. To get here it is a 1-km walk from the Cala Algaiarens parking area.

If you consult our hotel offers on Menorca you will find a number of reasons why you should start planning a getaway to Menorca as soon as possible, as a couple, with children or with friends.
