Playa de Muro 

One of the best-preserved and most beautiful natural environments in Mallorca. The perfect location for keen photographers or anyone who has ever dreamed of visiting long beaches with white sand and a turquoise-blue sea.  

Located in the heart of Alcudia Bay and bordered by a long stretch of unspoilt sand dunes, it has been recognised by numerous international publications as one of the best beaches in Mallorca, Europe and the world. 

The peacefulness that reigns supreme in winter in Playa de Muro makes it the perfect place to enjoy paradise while getting away from the daily grind and finding a space to enjoy some “me time”. Accompanied by nature, take a walk barefoot along the long stretch of soft, white sand or try your hand at exciting water sports such as surfing or kitesurfing. 

Take a seat and just admire the view and the horizon, dotted with colourful kites racing across the waves at full speed, doing jumps and pirouettes that will never cease to amaze you. 

The perfect plan:

Start the day early to get a chance to see a sunrise that fills the sky with a myriad of colours. Although winter temperatures are very mild, we do recommend you bring a blanket and a hot drink so you can enjoy this beautiful sight in total comfort from the shore.  

We then recommend a visit to the S'Albufera Nature Reserve to walk its trails and discover all the secrets of the largest wetland on the island. Don't forget to bring your binoculars! The reserve is a huge attraction for bird and nature lovers, home to numerous native flora and fauna species that can only be found here. 

Es Coll Baix 

A secret cove for the most intrepid visitors. Also located on the north coast near Alcudia, this is one of the least visited natural treasures in Mallorca as it’s not that easy to get to. The only way to visit is by boat or by hiking along a rocky trail.  

In winter it’s a secluded and private paradise surrounded by cliffs, native plants and spectacular views. There are no buildings or facilities, making it a great example of what Mallorca was like in the 1940s, when there were hardly any houses along the whole of this coast, save for the town and port of Alcúdia.  

The wild natural environment is also accompanied by a halo of mystery that makes it even more special. In older times, its remote location and the natural caves that dot the coast made it the perfect refuge for smugglers.  

It has also always been closely linked with the traditional fishing methods that form part of the lesser-known Mallorca. 

Recommendations:

You can get to it by land walking for half an hour along a rocky path, so it’s important you wear appropriate shoes and bring water and food for the journey. We do not recommend visiting with children or for elderly people who are not in the best of shape. 

The perfect plan:

In addition to enjoying the cove itself, the area is home to beautiful hiking trails which begin and end at a number of different locations, most with spectacular views of the northern coast, the cliffs, crystal-clear waters and beautiful nature.  

Don't forget to visit the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum near Alcudia to view and admire the extensive collection of modern art, a surprising sculpture park full of fantasy animals, and the famous rose garden. 

Playa de Formentor 

This iconic beach has been a source of inspiration and a creative refuge on the island for numerous famous artists and authors, including Mario Benedetti, Robert Graves and George Sand, among others. A magical enclave where time seems to stand still, inspiring moments of reflection and high emotion. 

Although it’s a beautiful place to visit at any time of year, it’s in winter when it exudes even great beauty and serenity. Located at the northern tip of the island, it combines the beauty of the Mediterranean and pine groves with the spectacular Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. A spectacular contrast, with the sparkling sea on one side and the imposing mountains on the other, guaranteeing a haven of peace in the most extraordinary setting. 

From January to well into April, the coastline is born again, as it slowly turns bright green and recovers elements of a certain mysticism, especially when accompanied by morning fog or a low sun. As the colours begin to get brighter, the contrast and the beauty of the scenery becomes even more pronounced. 

The perfect plan:

Winter is the best time to explore the area around the beach on foot or by bike. If you’re up to the task, take a trip up to the Es Colomer viewpoint and Cape Formentor, which are also great areas for bird watching. In winter you can also visit the iconic Cape Formentor by car, as there are no restrictions in place like there are in the summer. 

Make sure your mobile phone battery is fully charged so you can get hundreds of great photos of unforgettable views, diverse natural environments, and all the serenity of northern Mallorca. Sunset has to be one of the most magical moments you could ever experience.

If you’re an art lover or have a more creative spirit, this is the beach for you. Sit down alone on the sand to read a book, maybe write or draw, listen to the murmur of the waves and enjoy the beautiful scenery without any noise or distractions.
