How to prepare for the IRONMAN in Alcúdia, Mallorca

If you’ve decided this is the year to participate in the Zafiro IRONMAN 70.3 Alcúdia-Mallorca, or the IRONMAN Mallorca, it’s time to start preparing your trip to the island: choose your accommodation and work out a training plan for the lead-up to the race, and remember to plan how you’re going to enjoy a couple of relaxing days after the event.

Flights and transfers to Alcudia

Palma International Airport is a large airport with very frequent arrivals and departures, so it's relatively easy to organise a trip on your own, buying flights and then booking a transfer to Alcudia (which is about 45 minutes from the airport by car). An alternative to booking a shuttle transfer to Alcudia is to rent a car or van so you can comfortably transport your luggage and your equipment.

Travelling to Mallorca by boat

You could also choose to travel by boat to get to IRONMAN Mallorca. If you're travelling from somewhere in Europe, the port of Barcelona will be the best one for onwards connection with Mallorca. Several ferries depart from there, normally at night, so they arrive at the island in the morning, or even in the very early morning hours. It's easy to take your car onboard as well as all your equipment – it’s a simple and economical way to travel.

There is also a direct ferry from Barcelona to Alcudia: two ferries a day, one from Baleària and one from Transmediterránea, take you straight to the port of Alcudia, which is also where the official hotels for the race are located.
