Sports and active holidays | Mallorca & Menorca Guide

If there is one great place for cycling in Mallorca, it has to be the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Mountain passes, spectacular views of the coastline and a few technical challenges will simply take your breath away.

This route designed by our Sports Team will take you on a journey from end to end through the Sierra. Literally. A total of 121 kilometres and an elevation of 2690 metres to test your legs, the perfect training you need if you’re preparing for a Gran Fondo event such as the Mallorca 312 or a triathlon like the IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia-Mallorca.

No need to worry about eating well before you set off. Along the route you will pass through small villages with plenty of bars and cafes where you can snack on a delicious "pamboli”(Mallorcan dish of toasted brown bread with cheese, cold cuts or even meat or Spanish omelette) to recharge your batteries together with a coffee. Would you like to come with us?

Departure point: Puerto de Alcudia or Andratx

The most interesting thing about this route is that you can start from either end. Zafiro Hotels has special accommodation for cyclists at both ends of the island: in Puerto de Alcudia you have cycling-friendly hotels such as the 4-star Zafiro Tropic or the 5-star Zafiro Palace Alcudia, both Zafiro IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia-Mallorca official hotels. And in Andratx the new 5-star Zafiro Palace Andratx awaits you.

These great accommodation options and the fascinating route provide everything you need to plan an active getaway break on the island while also enjoying your favourite sport.

First leg: Alcudia - Pollença - Lluc

We start our route in Puerto de Alcudia and head towards Pollença in the north of the island, riding along a section of the spectacular bay until we reach the centre of town.

From there we continue climbing to Lluc, at an altitude of about 400 metres, from where we can see beautiful views of the highest mountains on the island.

Second leg: Gorg Blau - Cúber - Fornalutx

We leave Lluc and continue with our descent towards the village of Escorca, passing by the Gorg Blau and Cúber reservoirs, two natural wonders at the foot of the Puig Major mountain.

The next stage of the route takes us along winding roads towards Fornalutx, with cobbled streets and old houses that have led to it being named one of the most beautiful villages in Spain.

Third leg: Soller - Deià - Valldemossa

This part of the route takes us through three of the jewels in the crown of Mallorca, mandatory stops on any visit to the island: Soller, Deià and Valldemossa. Starting with Soller, a town surrounded by orange groves and with a beautiful port, we continue on to Deià, with views of the mountains on one side and the coast on the other. From here, we move on to our next stop: Valldemossa, which you must not leave without trying the famous potato “coca”, a typical Mallorcan pastry that will be great for recharging your batteries.

Fourth leg: Banyalbufar - Estellencs - Andratx

We continue with a lovely descent to Banyalbufar, one of the most beautiful coastal villages in the Sierra de Tramuntana. And from here, we face the final stretch with ups and downs all the way to Estellencs and then finally Andratx, where the route ends.

Accommodation offers for cyclists

If you want to give this route a try, either alone or with a group of friends, we would like to remind you that Zafiro Hotels is committed to supporting sport and offers special discounts for athletes with which you can save up to an extra 10% on your booking.

Our hotels in Puerto de Alcudia, the 4-star Zafiro Tropic and 5-star Zafiro Palace Alcudia are the official hotels of the Zafiro IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia-Mallorca, and both have a cycling station, gym, outdoor pools and specialist services for cyclists. If you prefer to start from Andratx, enjoy an exceptional rest in our new and luxurious 5-star Zafiro Palace Andratx hotel.
