Happy and proud. That is exactly how we feel at Zafiro after having raised the record amount of €26,000 in 2022 for the "Red Nose Hotels" charity campaign. The campaign has been supported by the Balearic Islands Hotel Federation since 2014 together with the NGO Sonrisa Médica, an organisation that Zafiro has been working with for several years.
This historic donation is thanks to the generosity of our guests and also of the company itself, and will help improve the situation of children in hospital in the Balearic Islands through the very effective medicine of humour and fun.

An example of solidarity
After two years of inactivity due to the pandemic, Zafiro resumed the project in 2022 and made a huge effort to set a new record for annual donations. The company owners, María and Antonia Plomer emphasised the involvement and devotion of Zafiro employees in the different fundraising activities, “in addition to the invaluable contribution of our guests, the effort and cooperative spirit of our employees are key factors in raising awareness among our visitors about the work of Sonrisa Médica and persuading them to help improve the conditions of children in hospital”.
They also made a very special mention of the involvement of the Zafiro Assistant Director of Operations, Marc Balaguer, "for making such a huge effort year after year to support such a beautiful and humane project with so many tangible benefits for the children. His hard work and that of the rest of our team makes us feel very proud of the human qualities of our Zafiro team and encourages us to continue stepping up our commitment in future editions”.
Smiling children
The "Red Nose Hotels" campaign is part of the Zafiro Corporate Social Responsibility Action Plan, and is just one of the activities Zafiro is involved in to create a positive impact on society. This project focuses on children in hospital in the Balearic Islands, who "really need the magic of humour and smiles to build up their strength to face adversity and continue to fight to be a part of the future of the islands", in the words of Antonia and María Plomer.
More than €170,000 for hospitals
Thanks to the support of the hotel industry in the Balearic Islands, the €171,000 will be used to finance a weekly programme of clown performances in public hospitals in Menorca and Ibiza and to increase the frequency of visits to hospitals in Mallorca. A new training programme will also be launched and the number of clowns will be increased.
A few days ago we saw first-hand the happiness and enthusiasm the NGO arouses wherever it goes when a group of friendly clowns from Sonrisa Médica visited our facilities and turned everything upside down... we’ll leave you with the video they treated us to which shows what a good time was had by all.
THANK YOU for your vocation and for your invaluable work!
