Zafiro Hotels is taking part for the third consecutive year in the Red Nose Hotels campaign supported by the Balearic Islands Hotel Federation together with the non-profit organisation Sonrisa Médica. The objective? To help their clowns continue to bring happiness to children in hospitals in the Balearic Islands and show that laughter is the best medicine.
Red Nose Hotel campaign
The Red Nose Hotel campaign started by Sonrisa Médica in 2014 allowed the Balearic Islands hotel industry to get involved and do its bit to support the fantastic work carried out by the organisation.
Since then, participating hotels have raised about €80,000, with the number of hotels increasing every year and reaching 69 last year. The money raised in the hotels has allowed an increase in the number of clowns and more visits to more hospitals on the islands.
Every year the Zafiro Hotels team enthusiastically awaits the campaign and has so far managed to raise a total of €21,322. This significant amount has only been possible thanks to the invaluable work of the team of people that organise collections in the hotels and also to the generous contributions of our guests.
For the first time ever, this year the campaign has been extended from 15 days to 3 months at the request of the hotel industry. Marc Balaguer, Assistant Director of Operations at Zafiro Hotels explained that “we asked if we could extend the campaign because it will give our guests more chances to join in and not force us to focus everything on a single two-week period. We hope that this will also allow us to continue to increase the amount of funds we raise”.
Zafiro Hotels with the children
Bingo, prize draws and photos with Yzzy are just a few of the many activities that hotels have organised. “Every single department is involved in one way or another, and it's fun for all of us and for our guests. In our hotels children already enjoy pride of place and that’s why we all really love this campaign”, say Anabel Dhaenens and Tamara Elsa, Public Relations Managers at the Zafiro Palace Palmanova and Zafiro Palace Alcudia hotels respectively.
This partnership with Sonrisa Médica is part of the Zafiro Hotels Corporate Social Responsibility programme. “We aim to continue with this partnership and other similar projects that have a positive impact on the local community and environment,” says Elena Alzamora, Corporate Director of Human Resources at Zafiro Hotels.
Laughter is the best medicine
Sonrisa Médica was founded in 1994 as a pioneering non-profit organisation in Spain whose work is based on the idea that laughter is the best medicine. This is the message that drives a team of professional clowns in their work to fill the hospitals in the Balearic Islands with happiness.
Thanks to the music, magic and games they bring to hospitals, they help relax young patients and put a smile on their faces, an important step on the road to recovery.
“Everyone knows someone who has had to spend time in hospital, and some of them for a long time. This is something that’s particularly difficult for children, and it really helps to have these clowns around to come in and brighten up their day. The work they do never ceases to amaze me and I think it’s brilliant what they do”, concludes Marc Balaguer.
