From Zafiro Hotels, we would like to invite you to participate in its big party, when Valldemossa dresses up to celebrate the Fiestas de la Beata. Come and see us!
Almost everyone has heard about the picturesque village of Valldemossa in Mallorca. Chopin, the Cartuja, Michael Douglas, ... there are so many things to remind us of this extraordinarily beautiful village in the heart of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains.
That’s why Zafiro Hotels would like to invite you to take part in the village’s biggest festival, a week in which Valldemossa takes to the streets to celebrate the Festival of the Beata (also known as the Festival of Saint Catalina Tomás or Sor Tomasseta) in honour of Saint Catalina Tomás, born in Valldemossa in 1531. The event is eagerly awaited every year by residents and visitors alike and the streets fill up with people from all over the island and tourists excited about taking part in all the different activities in honour of Saint Catalina, the first ever saint from Mallorca and patron saint of the village.
Valldemossa enjoys an entire week in July full of celebrations, traditions and culture, but it is July 28th when it reaches its highest point with the Triumphal Chariot parade. Every year following ancient traditions, a young girl of six years of age is chosen to represent Saint Catalina Tomás in a parade through the village streets accompanied by an entourage of fifteen “angels” and village children dressed in traditional Mallorcan costume, with music by a band of musicians playing traditional island instruments. The colourful and carefully-prepared parade passes through the village accompanied by an authentic atmosphere of devotion and celebration.
For the entire week residents and visitors can enjoy numerous cultural and popular events for all ages such as children's parties, theatre performances, sport tournaments and culinary events, as well as a new edition of the Artdemossa festival in which art, music, crafts and cuisine fill the streets of Valldemossa with colour and life.
At Zafiro Hotels we really recommend that you come and enjoy this amazing experience, and don’t forget to try a typical Valldemossa dessert, the coca de patata, a very light and fluffy little bun that goes perfectly with a scoop of delicious ice cream.
