Can Picafort beaches
Can Picafort and its surrounding area has some of the best beaches in Mallorca. Ideal for disconnecting and relaxing or enjoying with the family. Among the most attractive are Can Picafort Beach (the largest and most popular), Son Bauló Beach (with dunes and forests nearby), and Son Real Beach (less crowded and part of a nature reserve).
All of them promise crystal-clear waters and golden sand, inviting you to relax and enjoy the gentle Mediterranean breeze or take long walks at sunset.
Its proximity to the unspoilt beach at Son Serra de Marina makes it the ideal location for fans of water sports in Mallorca: windsurfing, hang gliding, kitesurfing, scuba diving... amazing experiences and guaranteed fun for your holiday.
Natural attractions in Can Picafort
The Son Real Estate is home to archaeological remains of the first settlements on the island, and is one of the places you absolutely must visit if you stay in Can Picafort. The hiking routes in this unspoilt natural environment are easy to do, allowing you to enjoy both the ruins of ancient civilizations and beautiful hidden coves, perfect for getting away from the world and resting in the sun.
Llevant Nature Reserve
Thanks to its fantastic location, Can Picafort is also the ideal starting point for exploring the Llevant Nature Reserve, an area of immense beauty with 1,671 hectares of Mediterranean pines, holm oaks and magnificent coves with turquoise waters that call for hundreds of photographs.
This scenic beauty is perfectly complemented by agricultural areas that show another side of Mallorca, a much more traditional view of the island that often goes unnoticed.
As well as the Cap de Farrutx viewpoint, one of the most stunning in the northeast of Mallorca, highlights include must-see sights such as the Na Clara Viewpoint, overlooking one of the most beautiful coves in the Reserve, with crystal-clear waters that reflect up to 3 different shades of blue.
This Reserve and its coves are also home to Mediterranean turtles, cormorants, seagulls, falcons and even ospreys.
Alcudia Bay and Pollensa
In the opposite direction to the Llevant Nature Reserve are Playa de Muro Beach and s'Albufera Nature Reserve, a famous wetland full of marshes and only about a 7-minute drive away.
Further west along the same road is Alcudia Beach (14 minutes), Port de Pollensa (29 minutes) and the final attraction in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains: Cape Formentor lighthouse, less than 1 hour away by car.
Can Picafort and Mediterranean culture
The charm of Can Picafort has been a constant source of inspiration for artists, sculptors and writers from every corner of the planet, but especially those from the Mediterranean. Among them is the famous artist Joan Miro, who featured its magical scenery in some of his works.
If you walk along the seafront promenade towards Son Bauló Beach, you’ll see several sculptures in the sand, very near the sea. They are an ode to the local identity and Mediterranean civilization, goddesses and fairies by the Mallorcan sculptor Joan Bennassar.
You’ll also be surprised by various large murals on building façades, high walls and the side of houses throughout the village. They’re the work of the young local artist Joan Aguilo, who is becoming more and more famous for his beautiful images full of celebration and joy.
Works that transmit the warmth and pleasant feeling of being at home that you get in Can Picafort thanks to the way it has retained its seaside village charm in spite of the growth of tourism. The coastline still has vestiges of a long seafaring history, and traditional fishing boats still work the sea up this day.
If you have the chance, don't miss the patron saint festivals held in mid-August. With a wide range of activities for kids and adults, traditional Mallorcan dances, markets, al fresco dinners and lively themed parties, such as the popular “HOLI Family Party” and the “Flower Power Party”. And don't forget to come and dive into the waters off Can Picafort on August 15, accompanied by the traditional cry of “Ducks to the water” as you try and catch as many rubber ducks as you can. A tradition that is a great laugh and has been going on for more than 80 years!
