Cap d’Artrutx
Just a few metres from our Zafiro Menorca you'll find Cap d'Artrutx, facing west and providing the perfect setting for those wanting to appreciate one of the best sunsets on the island. From the hotel, it's only an agreeable 5–7 minutes' walk and as you arrive you can see the spectacular lighthouse and next to it a beach bar where you can, if you wish, have a sundowner as you admire the sun as it slowly sinks into the waters of the Mediterranean.
Faro punta de Na Nati
Located some 5 kilometres from Ciutadella and half an hour by car from our hotel on Menorca, the lighthouse at Punta de Na Nati offers traces of the island history and an opportunity to watch the sun from the top of the cliffs as it sets. Many opt to go there by bike, which takes around one hour, but the most comfortable way of getting there is by car. Make sure you get there in good time, because even if there's a free parking in the area it usually fills up quickly in summer.
Pont d’en Gil
This is also very near Ciutadella and a mere 20 minutes by car from Zafiro Menorca: the Pont d'en Gil is one of those places few people find their way to and where you can still see a spectacular sunset. Just where the sun sets, there's a stone formation that looks like a bridge, which the cove is named after. This has become a must-see place on Menorca for many. You can reach it on foot or by bike from Cala en Blanes, where there is a free parking area for cars. Use this as an opportunity to get here a bit before sunset, take a dip in the sea and enjoy the serenity found in this wonderful corner of the island.
Monte Toro
Let's change the scene and leave the coast, heading towards the centre of the island. Near Es Mercadal – half an hour by car from Zafiro Menorca – you'll find the island's highest point, the Monte Toro. This mountain is 358 metres high and on top is the sanctuary Santuario de la Virgen de Monte Toro. Looking out from the top you're awarded with a spectacular view of the entire island, and on a clear day you can even see Mallorca. Many agree that the viewpoint on Monte Toro provides you with a perfect spot for watching one of the best sunsets on Menorca. Not just because of the view, but also because of the lovely nature surrounding it.
Faro del Cap de Cavalleria
The sunset from the Cavalleria lighthouse is another must-see sunset on Menorca due to the spectacular cliffs. They rise up by the sea to give this setting a unique, majestic feeling that will make a sunset seen from here a truly unforgettable experience. The best way of getting to Cap de Cavalleria from our hotel on Menorca is to travel by car, because it's one of the points furthest away – nearly an hour's drive – and there's a parking area there. It's a good idea to go and enjoy a beach day on Cavalleria beach, which is just next to the lighthouse, and then admire the sunset.
At what time does the sun set on Menorca?
- During the summer months June and July, the sun sets around 21:15–21:20 on Menorca.
- In August, the sunset is a little earlier, between 20:30 and 21:00.
- In September and October, you can enjoy the sunset between 19:30 and 20:20.
Practical advice
- Bring something to wrap yourself in, because there can be quite a strong wind at twilight by the sea.
- Always keep a torch in your bag (your mobile will also work), especially if you're going to walk on trails or paths, or on the cliffs, to avoid accidents on your way back in the dark.
- Go to the place you've chosen in good time, so you have enough time to find the ideal spot to enjoy the show.
- Make sure your mobile is charged so you can take all the photos you want. The show is worth it. That's for sure.
