Three refreshing cocktails using Mediterranean ingredients to combat the heat of August
The tremendous heat of August is almost upon us, and so it's time to start thinking about the perfect way to cope with the higher temperatures! There’s no better way to feel refreshed than with a tasty, ice-cold cocktail prepared with fresh Mediterranean ingredients and with a very special Mallorcan touch added by Zafiro Hotels.
Kiko Machado, bartender at the Zafiro Palace Alcudia in Mallorca, suggests three cocktail recipes that will help you beat the heat and also make you feel like you’re on holiday by the sea, even if you haven’t yet arrived. Get the glasses out and enjoy!

Canonita spritz by Zafiro
Canonita is a Mediterranean aperitif from Mallorca, made with the peel from the delicious oranges grown in the Sóller region. It’s a thoroughly refreshing and fruity cocktail.
Preparation:
- Fill a big wine glass with ice
- 5 cl of Canonita
- 5 cl of Fever-Tree grapefruit soda
Stir from the bottom upwards and garnish with half a slice of dried grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary.
Negroni Porto
Almost everyone knows how great a Negroni is. But what if we add a touch of the Mediterranean to make it even more special?
Preparation:
- 3 cl Km0 gin, made in Mallorca.
- 3cl Campari.
- 3 cl Muntaner Rojo, a red vermouth made in Mallorca.
- 1 cl Oporto Bandeira port wine.
Place the ice in the glass and let the glass cool down. Then add the ingredients. Garnish with a dried Mallorcan orange peel.
Moscow Mule
A very refreshing cocktail thanks to the addition of a little bit of ginger to add some zing.
Preparation:
- 5 cl. KM.1 Premium Mediterranean Vodka
- 2 cl sugar syrup
- Juice of half a lime
- 6cl ginger beer
- 1 slice of ginger
- 2 slices of fresh cucumber
Crush the ginger and cucumber and add all the ingredients except the ginger beer. Shake to mix. Pour the mixture into the chilled glass with ice. Add the ginger beer, stir well, and garnish with a dried lemon.
These three cocktails are not only refreshing and delicious, they also use some of the fresh and natural flavours of the Mediterranean. Whether it’s on a terrace, on the beach or just in your own garden at home, these drinks will make your summer even nicer and more memorable. Bottoms up!
