Fornalutx, a town from a dream
Located in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, just a few kilometres from Sóller, Fornalutx is the place that best preserves the charisma and traditional architecture of Mallorca’s mountain villages. The village has received several awards for its beauty and protection of its identity, such as the award for the Most Beautiful and Well-kept Villages in Spain.
Leave your car in the village car park and take a stroll around its cobbled alleys full of doorways decorated with a picturesque collection of flowerpots and colourful geraniums. The houses are all made of stone and have traditional hand-woven curtains which tempt you to take a photo as you round every corner. A walk around this architectural treasure makes you feel that life happens here at a very different pace. Savour every moment and just allow yourself to be enchanted by its beauty!
Also take the chance to have lunch in any of the village restaurants where you will find delicious typical Mallorcan dishes made in the traditional way and using fresh produce recently picked from the garden.
A round of golf with a sea view
In addition to enjoying your favourite sport on excellent golf courses, Mallorca also has an ideal climate which allows visitors to play golf almost all year round in a privileged natural environment. Most of its 23 courses have spectacular views of both the mountains and the sea, lighthouses or ports.
For example, our Zafiro Palace Alcudia Hotel is just a few kilometres from three of the most prestigious golf courses in Mallorca: Alcanada Golf Club, where the views of the sea and the lighthouse in the port of Alcudia accompany every swing; Canyamel Golf, a beautiful location which respects and preserves the natural environment and typical Mallorcan scenery, with some of the greens overlooking the sea; and Pula Golf, completely redesigned by José María Olazábal and highly rated by some of the best players in the world.
Zafiro Hotels provides a comprehensive service for golfers and can help you organise a luxurious getaway break combined with your favourite sport.
So now you know. If you’re a golf fan, come and visit Mallorca for a few days!
Miró Museum and other treasures
You may have seen some of the paintings by Joan Miró, one of the world's most famous Spanish artists. In Mallorca you can not only enjoy an interesting collection of his works, but you can also take a walk around his house and workshop where he painted during the 27 years he lived on the island.
In an extremely Mediterranean setting, surrounded by pine trees and with stunning views over Palma Bay, Son Boter is the name of the house where Joan Miró lived with his wife Pilar Juncosa, and the workshop that was built for him by his friend, the architect José Luis Sert. Canvases, oil paints, watercolours, pencils, brushes and sponges are in the same place that they have always been, along with a collection of objects from the most varied sources: postcards, newspaper clippings, and natural things such as stones, butterflies or shells.
The location is also home to the gardens and the Moneo Building, the work of Rafael Moneo and headquarters of the Miró Foundation.
The bodegas of Mallorca, tradition and quality
Mallorca has produced excellent wines throughout its history, but its bodegas have only become more professional businesses in recent decades. Most of them are family bodegas that retain the ambience inherited from their ancestors while adding new technology to produce excellent wines that have had great success on international markets.
A visit to the vineyards and bodegas in Mallorca will allow you to learn more about a very interesting part of the essence and identity of the island.
To book a visit, you can call directly and make an appointment to enjoy a personalised experience or visit when they are open to the public. There are also routes designed for cyclists which allow you to cycle through the vineyards. That is a great experience!
In most of the bodegas in Mallorca, you can visit the vineyards and the fermentation and bottling areas, with their different tanks and areas for aging the wine in barrels and for resting the bottles. At the end of the visit you will be able to sample some of the wines, olive pâtés or olive oils, along with other typical Mallorcan delicacies.
Mallorca is a charming destination with a host of interesting leisure options throughout the year. In our flight + hotel section you can see some travel ideas that include some of these activities. Book now and come and discover the island!
