IRONMAN Alcudia-Mallorca 2025
This fantastic event will bring together 3,500 athletes from all over the world in the north of Mallorca and more than a hundred elite-level triathletes from various countries. A massive display of effort and competitive spirit in the exceptional setting of Alcudia Bay and its beautiful natural environment.
Zafiro Hotels is the chief sponsor of the event once again this year, and our hotels in Port d'Alcudia are the official hotels for IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia–Mallorca 2025. Thanks to their excellent facilities, specially designed for athletes both while training and during the event itself, the 5-star Zafiro Palace Alcudia and 4-star Zafiro Tropic are the perfect choice for attendees. Although it must be said that the hotels are so popular that this year they are already fully booked for the days of the event.
Port d'Alcúdia, the start and finish of the race
Mallorca's excellent location, just a 2-hour flight from most major European cities, the quality of its services, its scenery and its ideal weather for outdoor sports make the island a truly special place. Port d'Alcúdia in the north of Mallorca is a top destination for anyone wanting to train, have fun, relax and discover the best-kept secrets on the island. The town is also the starting point for Zafiro IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia-Mallorca.
Port d'Alcudia has a long seafront promenade with a marina and numerous bars, shops and restaurants for all tastes. The port is also the starting point for the magnificent Playa de Alcudia Beach, which later links up with Playa de Muro Beach to create one of the most spectacular sandy beaches in the Mediterranean. A privileged setting to get ready for the race.
An elite-level triathlon also accessible to amateurs
This extreme endurance event is one of the most famous triathlons in the world and has been held in Port d'Alcúdia since 2011. In that first year, it managed to attract 1,857 athletes.
Its unique route makes it one of the favourite challenges for elite-level triathletes and amateurs from more than 70 countries. The event is specially appreciated for the spectacular setting in the north of the island, the calm waters of Alcudia Bay and the mild weather (around 19ºC). It also takes place in a lively and festive atmosphere from start to finish.
The event is a significant challenge, making it that much more attractive for many athletes. It involves a series of challenging ascents and descents, but at the same time is also easily accessible. Participants face a 70.3 mile course that involves a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km bike ride and a 21 km run. That is exactly half of the 140.6 miles of a full IRONMAN, that has a 3.86 km swim, 180.25 km bike ride and 42.2 km run.
The event is organised by The IRONMAN Group, the biggest operator of mass participation sports events in the world.
The cost of registration for IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia-Mallorca ranges from 350 to 600 euros, with the general registration price including medical assistance, a backpack and t-shirt, refreshments before and after the race, timed results, entry to the award ceremony, a medal, a finisher certificate and a guide for athletes.
The route for IRONMAN Alcudia-Mallorca 2025
The name of IRONMAN Alcúdia-Mallorca is due to the fact that practically the entire route is within the municipality of Alcudia. Alcudia is the location with the largest number of cyclists per square metre in Europe every spring and autumn, which is why it’s considered the top travel destination for the cycling high season.
This famous race is the largest in Europe in its category and starts nearby. The race begins at 7:40am with a 1.9 km swim in the crystal-clear waters off Playa de Muro Beach in Alcudia Bay. The swim does a clockwise loop around the Bay to end just a few metres from where it began.
This is followed by a 90 km bike ride which starts on the road to Artà, with a backdrop of the Mediterranean, the winding roads across the Serra de Tramuntana mountains (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO) and beautiful inland villages such as Lluc, Campanet and Muro. The race ends with a 21.1 km run on a flat circuit around the Bay, just 50 metres from the start of the event. With spectacular sea views and cheers from numerous spectators as excited about the race as the participants themselves.
The best places to see the race
- Roman bridge in Pollença
Access by car along the MA-2201 highway. Participants in the race reach here from Port de Pollença, entering along the Palma highway and passing through the lovely town of Pollença. This is the section prior to the start of the ascent towards Lluc, one of the most challenging in the race. If you watch from here, you can also take the chance to visit the Calvario de Pollença, a lovely sanctuary flanked by cypress trees that is reached by climbing its famous 365 steps, offering incomparable panoramic views.
- Plaza Mayor in Campanet
Campanet is one of the charming little villages that are dotted throughout the north coast of Mallorca. The race goes through the narrow streets in the village, allowing spectators to view the event from the main square while enjoying a tasty aperitif in a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere. Very close nearby are the famous Campanet Caves, with more than 3,000 square metres of galleries and caves, so if you have time to spare, this would be an ideal moment to take advantage and pay a visit.
- Sa Pobla
Sa Poble is only 20 minutes from Alcudia and very near Campanet. This is a very agricultural area and the gateway to the plains of Mallorca. This is the last place you can see the participants in the race before they head back to Alcudia for the final leg.
- Bridge over the Canal Estany Gran
Participants cross this wooden bridge 3 times. It’s a perfect place to see them and also make the most of it to enjoy the beach just a few metres away.
Official hotels for Zafiro IRONMAN Mallorca 2025
Just a few metres from the start of IRONMAN Alcudia Mallorca, the 5-star Zafiro Palace Alcudia and 4-star Zafiro Tropic are the official hotels for the race and have excellent facilities for triathletes, such as a 25-metre heated outdoor pool with 4 lanes for training, a gym, bike workshop and garage, and more...
They also offer all the comforts required for both before and after the race. With menus specially adapted for the needs of athletes, spaces for relaxation and massages, spacious and well-equipped suites, and endless options for training.
The hotels are ideal for anyone participating in the event or for organising training camps, especially in spring and autumn, with an extraordinary location for combining a passion for the triathlon with a chance to explore Mallorca and discover all the charms of its culture and cuisine with family or friends.
How IRONMAN began
This exciting long-distance event first started in Hawaii in 1978, in response to a challenge to create the most challenging endurance event. With that idea in mind, John Collins, his wife Judy, and their friend Gordon Haller, decided to combine the three different disciplines to find out what type of athlete was the most complete. 15 athletes took part in the first event, completing the swimming, cycling and running legs in a single day. The winner turned out to be Haller, with a time of 11 hours, 46 minutes and 40 seconds.
The event started to grow year after year and eventually became really popular. In 1981 it moved to the island of Kona (Hawaii), and began to inspire the creation of many other similar competitions, including IRONMAN 70.3.
The first race to use this shorter distance was held in 2006 in Florida (United States). Mallorca is currently the first IRONMAN event on the European circuit and the largest 70.3 race in Europe.
