Make the most of the lockdown to improve your skin following the advice from the head of our Zen, Spa & Wellness facilities at Zafiro Hotels.
The Zafiro Hotels team is here to accompany you during the lockdown and share some ideas with you that are fun and easy to make. Today's post includes some simple skin care tips you can try now you have more time on your hands.
In actual fact, staying at home is good for our skin as it reduces exposure to the harmful effects of pollution, the sun or make-up. However, when you stay at home there are also a few things that can make your skin dirty such as heating systems and using laptop, mobile or tablet screens, which is something we may well be overdoing over the last few days.
The person in charge of Zen, Spa & Wellness at Zafiro Hotels, Izaskun Franco, wants to help out with a number of tips that are easy to do and help keep your skin clean and moisturised while also combatting stress.

Healthy and cared for skin
We should not make the mistake of thinking “I don't have to clean my skin because I don't wear make-up" or "as I never leave home, I don't have to moisturise my skin". Good cleaning and moisturising are always essential for keeping your skin healthy.
The fact that we are spending more time at home gives us a chance to do some of the things that we normally always leave for another time. Now we have no excuse! We can clean our skin more thoroughly, apply face masks, activate the skin cells with an exfoliation or moisturise our skin better and more often.
Set yourself the challenge to spend some time every day keeping your skin clean, healthy and moisturised. You will really see the difference and how good it looks this summer!
Sophisticated homemade facial scrubs
Could this be the first time that you try to do a homemade facial scrub? Don't worry about it. Just follow Izaskun’s tips to see how easy it really is. With just a few simple and well-mixed ingredients, you can make a scrub to gently massage your face and neck. Choose the one you like best:
- Fine salt mixed with any type of oil you have at home: olive oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil or almond oil, for example, anything goes. This combination is suitable for sensitive skin or skin that tends to get red. Men can substitute fine salt for coarse salt.
- To provide a bit of aroma and nutrition, you can also add the juice of half an orange to the previous mixture.
- We can add a pinch of cocoa powder or a bit of ground coffee to the salt and oil for a more sophisticated scrub.
- Wine therapy at home! Add a few drops of wine to the salt and oil.
- Grind an aloe vera leaf and mix it with the salt and oil. A good shot of vitamins!
They’re really easy, right? Remember that both coffee and wine are stimulants, so are not recommended if you have high blood pressure. And if you’re lacking energy, this will definitely perk you up!
Moisturise, moisturise and then moisturise again
It’s a must. Moisturise your skin in the morning after giving it a good clean, in the evening and, of course, always after a facial scrub as the pores will better absorb the moisturiser.
It’s also very important to drink plenty of water throughout the day. According to experts, between 15% and 20% of the water in our body is in our skin, so it’s really important you moisturise your insides if you want to have more flexible, firm and supple skin.
Anti-stress massage
Izaskun also suggests an experience you can try at home with your kids or with your partner that will help you relax, reduce stress and improve your mood.
The technique is called shiatsu. It consists of applying gentle pressure to certain parts of the face, the nape of neck, the wrists or other parts of the body. Press the area with your fingers for about ten seconds and repeat 5 times. You can also massage the pressure point using small circular movements. The results may not be that noticeable at first, but as you practice more you will get better at finding exactly the right pressure points. You can easily find all the points to apply pressure on the Internet. Start with the easiest ones, practice little by little, and you will soon see how spectacular the results are.
Remember that the Zafiro Hotels team really wants you to stay in great shape and high spirits. We are looking forward to seeing you very soon!
