Knights, jesters, artisans and historical figures in Capdepera
Would you like to travel back in time and visit an authentic medieval market? Capdepera is a beautiful and friendly village in the east of Mallorca where you will be surprised to discover a festival that recreates the way the village used to be in the Middle Ages. Enjoy the buzz in the narrow streets leading up to the imposing castle and join the locals and other visitors in a surprising and exciting adventure.
The medieval festival started in 2000 with the commemoration of the 700th anniversary of the founding of Capdepera by King Jaime II in 1300 and is held every year on the third weekend in May. Local residents rise to the occasion every year, receiving visitors with flags, braids and banners on their balconies, dressed in perfectly designed period costumes to create the most authentic ambience, eager to inspire visitors with the festive spirit of the weekend.
What can you do at the medieval market? Endless activities for all tastes, you’re sure to find something you’ll love: concerts, plays, performances, comedy and fire shows with jesters and giants, demonstration of Balearic Island crafts, children's games, popular dances, shelves full of typical Mallorcan products, textiles, music and a long etcetera.
Once you reach the castle, you will love the lights, colours, sounds and smells. Don’t miss the workshops, particularly the craftspeople working with iron, wool, popular musical instruments, palm, gold, and much more. Remember to try the handmade herb liqueur, a delicious pleasure.
