Most significant golf tournaments in Mallorca
Mallorca golf tournaments are well known for being very well organised, with a high level of participation and significant prestige. They include a wide variety of formats (mixed, match play, stroke play, hexagonal circuits, pitch & putt…). The different levels of technique and physical and mental ability required make them ideal for professionals and amateurs alike.
From professional international golf tournaments, the Balearic Islands Golf Championship, golf tournaments for players over 50 (seniors) or under 18 (juniors), tournaments for women only…the Balearic Golf Federation, Spanish Golf Federation, local clubs and sports event promoters all organise a range of different competitions.
Golf tournaments in Mallorca ordered by date:
1. Mallorca Senior Open (February)
- This is for professional and amateur golfers aged 50 or above (men and women). Maximum handicap of 20 (up-to-date certificate required).
- The event is held in February at the Son Quint and Son Muntaner golf courses, both on the outskirts of Palma. Up to 84 players can take part.
- The event gives senior golfers a chance to enjoy their passion in the most spectacular settings, demonstrating their skill in conditions adapted to their abilities and combining their love for golf with a more active and healthy life.
- The event is part of the European Senior Golf Tour, a tour that includes events in several Spanish cities.
2. President Cup at Son Servera Golf Club (April)
- One of the most significant tournaments at Son Servera Golf Club, which organises a wide range of weekly and monthly events. Amid spectacular scenery with oaks, pines, olive trees and carob trees, the President Cup is played in individual Stableford mode and allows both male and female golfers to enjoy an experience that is as challenging as it is fun. With a halfway bar, food, drinks and live music.
- Son Servera Golf Club has been awarded the Golf Merit Plaque by the Spanish Golf Federation and has seen the emergence of outstanding professional and amateur golfers such as Lucía López or Nuria Iturroiz.
3. Afterwork Andratx Golf Tournament (May)
- This popular 9-hole mixed, individual Stableford tournament with scratch and handicap categories is accompanied by a very festive spirit with a barbecue and live music. It’s played on the first Thursday of every month, from May to September.
- This is a great chance to play one of the most iconic courses on the island, with views of the Mediterranean, narrow fairways, well-protected greens and the longest par-5 hole in Spain. The challenging course has attracted many Spanish and international golfing legends, including Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Sergio García or Barry Lane.
4. T Club League Golf Calvià (June)
- The third round of the first 2024 T Club League will be held in June at Calvià Golf Club, with €33,000 euros in prize money to be won. The full league consists of 6 rounds held throughout the year, three at T Calvia and three at T Palma Puntiro.
- The different events are all carried out on the same day and are played over 18 holes. There are two categories for men and two for women, with the handicap limited to 34 for women and 28 for men.
- Players with a valid Spanish Golf Federation license or a foreign license and certificate are allowed to take part.
5. Road to Mallorca (October - November)
- The Road to Mallorca consists of 25 tournaments in 15 countries, coming to an end in November in Mallorca. The final round of the second most important tournament in European men's professional golf, returns this year to the prestigious Alcanada Golf Club (Port d'Alcúdia) between October 31 and November 3, 2024.
- The tournament provides golfers with a chance to get on to the prestigious European Tour, the number one professional golf tour in Europe. So the event in Port d'Alcúdia is vitally important to golfers aiming to participate in the most important and lucrative golf tournaments for the following year.
- Since it began in 1989, it has seen players such as Matthew Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood or Tyrrell Hatton come through.
6. Mallorca Ladies Golf Open (November)
- For elite European female golfers, this event will be held from November 16 to 18, 2024 at the Son Muntaner Golf Club. A challenging 18-hole course with natural and strategic obstacles, located between the beautiful Na Burguesa mountains and Palma Bay with an approximate length of 6,266 metres from the championship tees.
- This exclusive tournament for women forms part of the prestigious Ladies European Tour and is very important in the Race to Costa del Sol (the tour's Order of Merit).
- The first edition was held in Mallorca in 2023 and attracted more than 70 professional women golfers. Victory went to the German Alexandra Forsterling with a total of 203 strokes (13 under par). The top-placed Spanish golfer was Marta Sanz, who came in fourth with 210 strokes.
7. Balearic Cup 2024 for men (December)
- This classic event on the Balearic Islands Golf Federation's tournament calendar will be held at Son Antem Golf Club between December 5 and 8, 2024. As usual, it will bring together the best Spanish players and future golfing stars.
- The 14th edition of the tournament returns to the golf course where it first started in 2011. The first winner of the event was the world-famous professional golfer John Rahm. The tournament counts towards the world ranking and Spanish men’s and men’s under 18 rankings for 2025.
- Another famous tournament in Mallorca is the King's Cup. In February this year it held its 109th edition at Alcanada Golf Club. Unforgettable golfers have taken part in the tournament, including José María Olazabal, Sergio García, Danny Willet, Danny Clark, Gonzalo Fernández- Castaño…
