From turquoise seas in the south to wild nature in the north
As you would expect, we have to start with the heavenly beaches and charming coves with turquoise waters in the south and the wilder landscape of the north. The locals recommend you should always check whether the wind is blowing from the north or south before deciding which part of the island to visit in search of sun.
In the north, we love Cala Pilar. There are normally not many people there as it is a bit of a hike to get to, but it’s well worth the effort when you finally make it and discover the cliffs and reddish sand.
And in the south, a hike of around 2 hours takes you to Cala Escorxada, a fine example of how you don’t need to go all the way to the Caribbean if you’re looking for a paradise beach with fine white sand and transparent water. The walk can be done from the Es Migjorn car park and you can also kayak from Santo Tomás Beach.
The Camí de Cavalls (Horse Trail)
You should also not miss the Camí de Cavalls, a 185 km trail that circles the entire island very close to the coast and is considered a cultural treasure. Obviously there’s no need to walk the entire trail. The route is divided into 20 sections with different lengths and degrees of difficulty that you can either do on foot or by bike.
If you’re lucky, you may also see some purebred Menorcan horses on the trail. We recommend you schedule your visit for early in the morning or late in the afternoon so you can avoid the hottest time of day. You should also check out the best routes beforehand so you can see where is the best place to take a dip on each of them.
Menorca lighthouses
Lighthouses not only guide sailors, they are also the perfect backdrop for a spectacular photo. Get your camera out and take a walk around any of the 7 lighthouses on the island.
Of the 7, we especially recommend the Cavalleria Lighthouse at the northern tip of the island. You can reach the lighthouse by car on a narrow road. Most people visit during the day, although it’s also worth a visit to see the beautiful sunsets.
Forever Ciudadela
Finally, you have to stop off in Ciudadela, the most beautiful town in Menorca, needing just a short walk to explore the historic and noble town centre and beautiful port.
We mustn’t end without reminding you about our Zafiro Menorca located only 8 km from Ciudadela, a friendly hotel which is ideal for families, friends or couples. Remember that you can also now plan your entire holidays in Menorca using our flight + hotel holiday packages. We hope that’s given you a better idea of what you really have to see in this Mediterranean paradise.
