Zafiro Hotels offers a very comfortable and pleasant stay for all cyclists.
The town of Alcudia and its harbour (or the Port, as the residents call it), in the north of Mallorca, is one of the best areas to enjoy a holiday dedicated to cycling as there are lots of routes of varying difficulties. In addition to the natural beauty of the place, there is also a very good selection of accommodation that is ideal for cyclists, including the five-star Zafiro Palace Alcudia, which has become one of the classic hotels for cyclists who come from all over Europe to Alcudia to partake in their favourite pastime as well as professionals who come to train and ride many kilometres every day.
If you take Alcudia as a starting point, cyclists can do some magnificent routes like the one that leads to the lighthouse of Formentor - which is in the extreme north of Mallorca -, the route passes through beautiful mountainous landscape which borders the sea or you could go in the opposite direction and take a route that passes through Pollença and then on to Artà, on the way you can divert off the route to visit the Hermitage of Betlem, a stunning place that is worth visiting and ideal to have a quick rest before continuing the route planned for the day. Don´t not forget that along the way you can enjoy the beaches, or even some of small coves of that are so typical of the Balearic Island.
Also from Alcudia it is easy to do cycle rides which go up to the Sierra de Tramuntana, which is in the opposite direction to Formentor, and conquer a Puig or two, which is what the locals call a mountain. It is in this area of Mallorca where the most important elevations of Mallorca can be found, with several mountains above the thousand meters of height, the Puig Mayor with its 1,445 meters stands out as the highest.
It is the high mountain passes that attract the cyclists to do these routes on bike leaving from Alcúdia or even from Pollença and running through the Tramuntana, means that all the time as you cycle the impressive and breath-taking sea views are always to your right and this one of the greatest pleasures that Mallorca has to offer and what’s more its completely free, all you have to do is pedal! If it is the afternoon and you have not yet returned to Alcúdia or Pollença, then take a break or make a quick diversion to enjoy the breath-taking sunsets of Mallorca, which are spectacular whether it’s from the roadside or the sea or from a cove or one of the few beaches in the mountainous area. It really is worth stopping and watching. Even though many cyclists take their cycling seriously on the routes from Alcúdia around Mallorca they will always stop to take a break when passing by such magnificent places as the Port of Sóller or Na Foradada.
In the sierra, there lots of viewpoints and places to stop and visits such as the emblematic monastery of Lluc, Mount Tomir, or the reservoirs of Cúber and Gorg Blau, all of which are a few kilometres from each other. Because, after all, Mallorca is not a very big island and you could do a different route each day the routes are not complex with great levels of difficulty, however if you are up to it you could start from Alcudia and do all the places in one day if you wanted to. If you choose to go even further afield one day then go to where the mountains slopes down into the sea, take a route that goes down one of the ports or you can visit the valley of Sóller, another of the emblematic places of Mallorca, which is very different from Alcudia, it is surrounded by mountains and offers impressive views for cyclists and a destination that does not disappoint at all after the hard work of getting there. Almost all the mountain cycling routes pass through Soller, as everyone wants to see it when travelling to Mallorca.
Also, it is possible to take the route to Sa Calobra, which is a little further more to the north, which is a mountain port goes down into the sea – one of the few that exists, it is quite demanding route to do on bicycle. It is worth remembering that after finally arriving at the port of Sa Calobra you must make the ascent again to continue on your way which can be very hard work when the sun is high and it is very in powerful Mallorca! The possibilities of cycling routes from Alcúdia are endless and offer many variations but with satisfaction guaranteed for those the cyclists who travel to Mallorca at any time of the year, always coming with several ideas of routes in their heads. If you come in summer, one should always be careful of the sun, remember to carry water and keep hydrated, but you can always cool off with a swim in a cove or on one of the abundant beaches. the routes give you the opportunity to visit the local harbours (port as they called locally), not forgetting the ascents up a Puig which can be a challenge in themselves but once completed the ride has been a success and you will look forward to returning to Mallorca perhaps staying in Alcudia to repeat the experience again next year.
