Sailing as a sport  has been gaining in popularity over the years   in Mallorca especially since  there are many important sailing competitions  held during the summer such as  la Copa de S.M. el Rey, ( the King´s Cup) el Trofeo Almirante Conde de Barcelona, el Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofía  and  la Breitling. The best sailors in world and numerous members of European royalty come to Mallorca to spend their summers on the island attracted by these competitions.
