Discover Menorca on foot on the Camí de Cavalls
Menorca is an island that offers endless possibilities for hikers far removed from the standard sun and beach tourism. The most famous and popular route in Menorca is the Camí de Cavalls. There are 20 different routes you can take along more than 180 km of island coastline.
During your holiday in Menorca you can follow routes around various parts of the island or schedule a multi-day tour, taking the opportunity to stay in amazing coves (camping not allowed). Come and discover it all!
Drink a pomada in the Cova d'en Xoroi
Legend has it that many, many years ago, a man who may have been a pirate abandoned by his shipmates or the survivor of a shipwreck, reached a cave on the rugged coast of Menorca after climbing up the cliffs to seek refuge. That cave is now known as the Cova d'en Xoroi (Xoroi's Cave)
Nowadays it’s a modern music bar by day and disco by night. Its privileged location makes it one of the most incredible settings in the Mediterranean.
We recommend you enjoy some relaxation on one of its chill-out terraces along with the traditional Menorcan drink: the pomada. A pomada is a combination of a local Menorcan gin called Gin Xoriguer with lemonade. It is usually served like a slush and is absolutely delicious!
Savour the flagship product: Mahón cheese
Mahón cheese in Menorca is like whiskey in Scotland, pasta in Italy or sushi in Japan. It is a hallmark of local cuisine. It may sound like a bit of a cliché, but it really is like that.
Mahón cheese is made from the milk of local cows and has an intense and unmistakable flavour. The production process has remained almost unchanged for centuries and has been passed down from generation to generation. We recommend you take a tour of the famous Cheese Route to savour the flavour of this highly appreciated product. Visit cheese factories and discover more about the production process and the life of a Menorcan cow, and, of course, try several tasting sessions accompanied by magnificent local wines. You’ll never regret it!
Don’t return home from your Menorca holiday without some traditional abarca sandals
Menorca has a very long tradition of hand-made shoe manufacturing. Agriculture was behind the appearance of the famous Menorcan abarca sandals, with the leather sandals protecting the feet of peasant farmers. Today they have been transformed into the most typical footwear that people wear in summer.
Where should you buy them? There are numerous shops selling abarcas throughout the island. You can find abarcas in the most traditional or chic styles. You’ll be surprised by the amount of different materials they use, the hand-painted designs and a wide range of colours. Buy yourself a pair!
Discover a different environment in Favàritx
Dating back to the Palaeozoic era, the Cape of Favàritx is in the northeast of the island in the s'Albufer del Grau natural park, about 17 km from Mahón and in a very isolated location.
We recommend you head for the lighthouse to take in the breath-taking views and the stunning natural environment, more like a lunar landscape than a Mediterranean island due to the greyish colour of the rocks and the silver sea. Without a shadow of a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful and amazing places in Menorca. Definitely worth a visit!
